Carlow Town being the biggest town, any public transportation to County Carlow tends to be centred on the town itself. Making the town the most accessible town in the county for those plan on using public transport.

 

Arriving by bus


Carlow’s bus station is located within the town centre, at the junction where Kennedy Avenue and Barrack Street meet. Buses begin to arrive and depart after 7am each morning. Some buses do arrive and depart from the bus stop outside Deane's newsagents before 7am. A small fee-paying car park is located at the bus station, although this is rarely full, so finding a space is rarely be a problem.

The Waterford - Dublin route, starts in Tramore, Co. Waterford and finishes at Dublin Airport.  The route has about, it has 18 bus stops, meaning that Carlow town is easily accessible to those travelling from Waterford,or Dublin. About 8 buses depart the airport daily, serving Carlow along the way, while nine buses make the return journey.

 

The last bus to depart the Airport leaves at 10:30pm, A new 4:30am night-time service will to take visitors from Carlow to the airport. Anynody wising to use the overnight services must buy their tickets in advance. These tickets can be bought from the office at the bus station or online from http://www.jjkavanagh.ie/, whereas during the day fares are usually collected by the driver. All tickets are valid for one month, and the fare shouldn’t cost you more than €15 for a return ticket.

 

By Car

Travelling around Carlow by car can be straightforward enough. Minor traffic jams commonly occur on Upper Tullow Street. A small section of the M9 serves as a bypass for Carlow town eliminating the traffic jams that were caused by Dublin-Waterford traffic. One-way systems are in place on Browne Street, Castle Street, Charlotte Street and Church Street as well as the area around the Courthouse.

 

Carlow has over 3,000 car parking spaces, with the majority been fee-paying during the day; all of these must be paid in advance. Parking tickets in Carlow are purchased from vending machines on the street, which have the time stamped on them.There is also two multi-storey car parks, with the largest been located at Carlow Shopping Centre. The other can be found on Dublin Street. If you choose to use any of these car parks you will be issued with a ticket on the way in, which must be 'validated' before you return to your car.
