County Carlow Military Museum

Founded in 1995 and reopened in July 2001 after the museum moved to its current location on the Athy Road, Carlow Town.

The museums main display features the uniforms of the Irish Defence Forces. The Irish Defence Forces serve in many UN peacekeeping missions in places such as the Congo, Lebanon and Somalia. Another popular feature of the museum is the reconstruction of a World War One trench. Other displays in the museum include items from the Irish War of Independence, Civil War, Carlow Militia and a range of displays relating to Carlow soldiers who have served in armies around the world.

Altamont Gardens

Also Known as the most romantic garden in Ireland, Altamont gardens are an enchanting blend of formal and informal gardens located on a 100 acre estate. Whilst still little known about the gardens themselves, it ranks in the top ten of Irish gardens and is commonly referred to as 'the jewel in Ireland's gardening crown'

The Lawns are bisected by sculpted yews sloping down to a lake surrounded by rare trees, rhododendrons and shrubs. A plethora of roses and herbaceous plants give the air spectacular scent that leaves you dazzled. The gardens are also home to a fascinating walk through the three gardens known as the Arboretum, the Bog Garden and the Ice Age Glen with their canopy of ancient oaks which leads to the majestic River Slaney. During River Walk, you might be fortunate enough to see some salmon or trout raising out of the water, perhaps even an otter. If you chose to return via the Hill Walk, you will be surrounded by breathtaking views of the Blackstairs  Mountains and the Wicklow Mountains.

Brownshill Dolmen

This very large Dolmen that proves people had settled in Carlow at stage that pre-dates written history. The Dolmen can be found just outside Carlow town and the capstone that makes up the Dolmen is the largest to be found in Europe.
